“I was raised on a small dairy farm in southern Minnesota and learned the importance of a strong work ethic at a young age,” states Kevin Tuma. “With a younger brother, twin sister, and older sister, I worked nearly fulltime during high school and college to support myself and take pressure off my mom raising us kids,” he continues. That work ethic has served Kevin well for many years.
After high school, he attended the University of Minnesota at Duluth, where he received his degree in Organizational Management in 2009. While at college, he worked summers as a sales intern with Southwestern Advantage and was introduced to direct sales. Kevin joined Family Heritage Life Insurance Company of America (FHL) in 2010.
“I had two friends doing well with Family Heritage Life, and they said I should consider a career with FHL. After learning about the opportunity here, I was confident I could earn a great income, gain lots of experience, work with people I could aspire to be like, and build residual income to pay me for years to come,” recalls Kevin. “The FHL systems gave me the confidence I would fit in, excel with the Company, and have the money and flexibility to travel, which is a huge passion of mine,” he adds.
“Eventually, I knew I wanted to be an Agency Owner, because it would challenge me to become a better version of myself in all areas of life. I could provide well for my family and pass on a proud legacy,” states Kevin. “Impacting others through mentoring and leadership is an important part of who I am. Leaders played a pivotal role in my success, and I want to pass that on to others. My ability to make complex concepts simple for a new Agent gives them confidence to create their own success. I have applied these principles to create triple-digit recruiting growth and leadership training that is decidedly impacting our Company,” he continues.
Kevin’s proud of his career accomplishments. “I’m a Fast Start award winner, I Dare You winner, achieved Top First Year Performance, winner of annual Q3 Agency trip, Top Agency Builder, Top Recruiter, on the Lifetime Achievement Team, and American Patriot Growth winner,” he states. “In addition, my personal growth and the relationships I’ve formed are incredible. Considering my early life experiences, the FHL culture of vision and growth has been the greatest life changer for me and has stretched me to think bigger. I want to help others do the same. I am constantly challenged as an individual and a leader and have experienced more success and personal growth than I thought possible. I was blessed to meet my amazing wife, Angie, through Family Heritage Life and have built a family business with her by my side. I don’t believe I could experience this level of growth with any other organization,” he continues.
“FHL products protect people from losing what they’ve worked so hard to attain and provide freedom from anxiety in their biggest time of need. If you’re considering a position with FHL, dive in, because our systems work for your success!! Put the blinders on for 13 weeks and give it all you have! Study hard, control what you can, and don’t worry about the rest. That will create the right foundation and skills for your success. We often recruit in small towns and rural areas with limited career options. Family Heritage Life gives you the opportunity to make a six-figure income, run your own business, change the trajectory of your life, and have a direct and positive influence on your community,” he emphasizes.
Kevin and his team have a service mindset. “I participate on ‘serve’ teams at church, volunteer for its community outreach programs, and volunteer through Aging Services in our area. I’m also involved in Junior Achievement and our Chamber of Commerce. Other team members are active in after-school kids’ programs and in their church communities,” says Kevin.
In his travels, Kevin has been to Southeast Asia, Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, and all over the United States. “I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, woodworking, cycling, and participating in ‘RAGBRAI’, the Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. Angie and I enjoy visiting music festivals around the country, traveling to new places, and revisiting some of our favorites,” he adds.
